  • How do I apply

A visa (or entry clearance) is a certificate that is put into your passport or travel document that gives you permission to enter the United Kingdom (UK).

European Economic Area family permits and family reunion applications should be submitted at the visa application centre. To find out whether you need a visa please use the 'Do I need a visa' questionnaire on the UK Border Agency Visa Services website.

Gratis applications supported by 'Notes Verbal' from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or other foreign missions in Ghana should be submitted at the UK Border Agency at the British High Commission between 07:00 and 10:00 Monday to Thursday

    When to apply

For all other visa types, you can apply 3 months in advance of your intended date of travel to the UK. Applicants should not make their travel arrangements to enter the UK until they have received their visa.

    How to Apply

You can complete the visa application process in 4 steps:

Step 1. Complete your visa application form in one of the following 2 ways.

    Online visa application form
Complete an online visa application in English at www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk

    - Please ensure that you complete all the sections correctly.
    - Sections 1 and 2 are vital to considering your application. The information in this section must be completed accurately.
    - Please print all the pages of the visa application form and bring it to the visa application centre.
    - Please make sure the bar code appears on the final page of your printed visa application form and remember to sign it.
    Paper visa application form
Download an appropriate application form from the UK Border Agency website
Complete the application form in English and sign it. Ensure that you complete all the sections correctly. If you make a mistake in filling in any of the sections you will need to make the change on the form and sign against it.

    Step 2. Submit your application

You will be directed to a queue for applicants, one queue for standard applicants and a separate queue for applicants who qualify to use the premium service.

Please note that during peak periods, the number of persons who can be accommodated in the queue may need to be restricted for reasons of crowd control in which case such persons would be given priority admission the following working day.

You must submit all your supporting documents with an English translation. Please submit the original documents with photocopies. If you submit the original documents without photocopies, the original copies will not be returned to you.

You will need to bring the following documents

A valid travel document or passport.
Supporting documents relevant to the category you are applying for with copy of each original document.
    The correct visa fee
Bring 1 recent passport-sized (45mm high x 35mm wide) colour photograph of yourself. The photograph should be:
