Tuberculosis Testing
Requirement for Tuberculosis Testing for Applicants Visiting the UK for Longer
than 6 Months. Further information on TB testing can be found on the UKBA
website
Local information for tuberculosis testing
All persons submitting visa applications in Ghana, including applicants from
Togo, Niger, Code d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso, who intend to come to the United
Kingdom for a period longer than six months, will need to obtain a certificate
confirming that they are free from infectious tuberculosis (TB) before
submitting their visa application. The categories of applicant that will be
affected by this new requirement include long-term students, work permit
holders, other employment and domestic workers, volunteer workers (plus all
dependants of the aforementioned), and all settlement and marriage cases.
Please note that those failing to submit a certificate at the time of
application will be refused and the visa fee not refunded.
The following will be exempt from the TB testing requirement:
| - |
All diplomatic passport holders being posted to the United Kingdom;
|
| - |
All children aged under 11 years; |
| - |
All returning residents;
|
The tests will be carried out at:
Omni Lab Clinic
49 Osu Badu Street
Dzorwulu
Accra
Ghana
PO Box 5222
Accra-North
Tel: +233 (0)244 335856, +233 (0)244 335857
Fax: +233 21 508697
Attendance is by appointment only and the full test fee of US $60 (in Ghanaian
Cedis) must be paid in advance.
Only certificates issued by the IOM clinic will be acceptable. At the IOM
clinic, applicants will be tested for pulmonary TB by chest X-ray and, as
necessary, sputum smears. If free from infectious TB, the applicant will be
issued with a certificate (valid for six months) and the applicant can then
submit his/her visa application in the normal way. Those found to be suffering
from infectious TB will be asked to seek further treatment and will not
normally be allowed to apply for a visa until after they have been successfully
treated and are certified free of infection.
