  • Tuberculosis testing

    All applications submitted in Ghana, including applicants from Togo, Niger, Code d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso and Liberia, who intend to come to the United Kingdom for a period longer than 6 months, will need to obtain a certificate confirming that they are free from infectious Tuberculosis (TB) before submitting their visa application.

    The categories of applicant that will be affected by this requirement include long-term students, work permit holders, other employment and domestic workers, volunteer workers (plus all dependants of the aforementioned), and all settlement and marriage cases. Failure to submit a certificate at the time of application will be refused.

    The following will be exempt from the tuberculosis testing requirement

    All diplomatic passport holders being posted to the United Kingdom;

    All children aged under 11 years;

    All returning residents;


  • Documents required for the tuberculosis testing at the Intenational Organisation for Migration Clinic:

    National passport with a photocopy for each applicant;

    2 recent passport-size pictures for each applicant;

    Birth certificates with a photocopy for children for children below 11years old

  • How to get a tuberculosis test

    The tuberculosis testing consists of several steps:

    Make an appointment by calling the IOM phone numbers listed below. Attendance is by appointment only and the full test fee of US $66 payable in either US dollars or GHC 105 and must be paid in advance.

    You can expect to:-

    Undergo chest x-ray (except children under 11 years old) and optional chest x-ray or sputum smears for pregnant women. Applicants with tuberculosis signs on their chest x-rays will have a further sputum smear or culture test will be done with the results available after 6 or 8 weeks
    It is advisable for applicants to take the tuberculosis test at least 10 weeks prior to their application because of the number of weeks it takes for the second test to be done as indicated above.
    Receive the certificate (for tuberculosis free applicants) or be referred for tuberculosis treatment (for applicants with infectious tuberculosis)

    Pregnant women applicants will be offered 3 options:

    1)
    Chest x-ray with protective abdominal double shielding
    2)
    Delaying the x-ray until completion of the pregnancy or
    3)
    Taking sputum smears.

  • Tuberculosis testing and certification

    After your test you will receive either of the following:-

    1) You receive a certificate confirming your are free from infectious tuberculosis and you can proceed with your visa application.
    2) You will receive a certificate saying you have been found to be suffering from infectious tuberculosis, and you cannot be granted a visa for travel to the UK until the end of your treatment, after repeated examination at IOM clinic.
